Naming a Cat

There are challenges most large in our lives today,

Some are steep like the side of a cliff.

It may have begun in the past long ago,

When they penned the first hieroglyph.

 

To name a cat is an arduous task,

It can take many weeks, maybe more.

Feline charisma and traits are aplenty,

Though it can sometimes feel like a chore.

 

Their size can determine a name such as Tiny,

Or Donut, Titan or Smidge.

Your favourite book as a child may prompt you,

Using Mungo, Jerry or Midge.

 

A good suggestion is a cartoon cat,

Like Sylvester, Garfield and Tom.

Or the readers among you may settle for Sherlock,

Uriah, Lolita or Ron.

 

Caligula fits the spoilt cat,

Lofty and attention seeking.

The history buffs among you,

Choosing Cleo, Lincoln or Keating.

 

Hendrix, Floyd, Ozzie and Billy,

Is favoured if Rock is your love.

A graceful moggy, that’s dainty on foot,

Then Ginger would fit like a glove.

 

My kitten is white, so colour would feature,

You’d think at first glance, if you saw.

Yet Frosty and Snowy, the names didn’t fit,

Someone even suggested Coleslaw!!!

 

The ideas above were mixed in my brain,

The authors, the sizes and books.

He is such a titch, a delicate boy,

A character popped out and it stuck.

 

Tiny Tim is his name, my cute little cat,

 

It suits him right down to a tee.

After Bob Cratchit’s son, from the Charles Dicken’s book,

Because he’s mini, and teeny and twee.

PS… Just a thought. I also love names for animals that you would associate with humans. I have friends with dogs and cats called Brian, Colin, Alan and a cute little pug dog called ‘Grace Kelly’. x
