Whitby Abbey

It has been 10 whole weeks since I wrote my last blog post, so I do apologise for being off the radar for such a long time. I have had ill-health and various issues, but I am now right as rain, positive and raring to go.

This post is kind of following on from the one before in which I reviewed a few gothic stories. One in particular, ‘Dracula’ which was recommended by a good friend. I subsequently read this with relish before we embarked on the 3 day trip to Whitby in Yorkshire.

The town is very quirky and has lots of history. It is split down the middle from the sea running into the river ‘Esk’. Whitby Abbey, Saint Mary’s church and the 199 steps inspired Bram Stoker to write ‘Dracula’.

The 199 steps, where Bram Stoker’s Dracula ran up as a dog when it embarked of the boat

Apart from this, the seaside resort of Whitby is a beautiful place to take a holiday. There is the town itself with a lovely harbour.

We sat here at a pub and had a lunch looking at this lovely view

Pubs and shops overlooking the sea where you can have lunch and a drink looking at the boats and the views. And surprisingly, in England especially, the prices of the normal seaside merchandise was really cheap.

The food and drinks were not over-priced, even though some of the restaurants had prime views.

Me and my partner stayed in a gorgeous hotel a mile away from Whitby, which was also reasonably priced. Just under Ā£300 for a 3 night stay with a full breakfast and a gorgeous room with a four poster bed! More on that later.

The bed was in keeping with the hotel. I felt like I had gone back in time 300 years. Sadly lacking bed curtains. Gorgeous hotel though and views.

Forgot the boats name!

We had a fantastic time, and I would definitely go back. If you ever visit England and you want to experience a proper seaside holiday, without the tack, please go to Whitby.

One last thing. If you don’t mind being outside the town, I recommend staying at this lovely hotel. To look at it you would think it would be very expensive but it’s very reasonable. The rooms are clean, pretty and unique. The staff are friendly and approachable. The grounds and views are wonderful.

We had breakfast every morning and it was lovely, with so much to choose from.

This has got to be the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Here is the link xĀ https://dunsleyhall.com/

I am a mother of two children, and have had many experiences in my life that I have been through and had to overcome. I feel it would be beneficial (at least to me, and perhaps you) to share my experiences. Iā€™d love to hear your comments and suggestions. x

Welcome back and I’m glad you’re feeling better. Whitby sounds like a lovely place to visit. It’s always a plus when a place isn’t overpriced. Where you stayed looks wonderful, I’m a sucker for a hotel with beautiful views. Thanks for sharing your experience.
