My Quick ‘Slimfast’ Fix

I’ve been on a recent 10 week weight loss journey and I must admit it’s been pretty tough! I think that dieting requires a great deal of self discipline and motivation and because of my lack of this motivation I decided to join my local gym. I have really enjoyed going a few times a week and I do think you get into a routine when you become familiar with the layout and the equipment.
I also began the UK Weight Watchers online programme which I pay for monthly, and I’ve lost on average 1-2 lbs per week. I do think about food for the majority of the day, which is just part of being a human being I suppose, and the more deprived you feel the more sugary cheesecakes/donuts/apple pies you want.
I’ve had a holiday booked since the beginning of 2024, and on the recommendation of a friend, knowing my frustration on getting the last half a stone off, suggested I try the ‘Slim-fast’ diet for a week or two to get those pesky last few pounds off that are just not budging.
The ‘Slim-fast’ plan has been around for decades and seems to provide that first few weeks kick-start or kick-end to help you lose weight fast, hence the name. I’ve never met anyone that has done this plan for more than a few weeks, and it probably would be difficult; but for a week or two seems pretty OK to me.
Anyway the proof in the pudding occurred 10 days ago when I bought a tin of the ‘Slim-fast’ powder and used this to blend the shakes every day and ate the snacks too. And low and behold, I actually lost 4 lbs in the first week! How good is that?!
So a typical day works like this: 1 Slim-fast shake for breakfast
1 Slim-fast shake for lunch
1 Sensible meal for dinner
2 or 3 Slim-fast snacks throughout the day
You can buy the snacks at shops like Super-drug and Boots or online. The sensible dinner ideas can be found if you search online and can include fish, chicken, salads, lots of vegetables etc. Eggs are good too. I also ate pasta but kept the portions small. I didn’t eat bread for the week and avoided alcohol for the 7 days. You can buy the shakes ready made, but I found them quite expensive so I used the tins of powder which you can buy online here.Ā
A blender is definitely important to get a fine smooth shake; or you can use a whisk and sieve.
One week was achievable for me and to be honest that was enough. I’m back doing the Weight-watchers plan until I go on my holidays.
