    I Saw a Panda

Do you like nostalgia? Approaching middle age? I am middle aged, well I’m at the top end of middle aged, but I won’t go into that; I have noticed more and more as the years continue that there seems to be stuff around that seems to jolt my hippocampus and I feel all gooey inside when a song brings back fond memories, or I find an old book with a 1970s cover in charity shops, or I look at an old photograph of my junior school on a Facebook group. All the memories come flooding back and I love it. There is a town close to me called ‘Loughborough’ that…

The Christmas Presents I Received in the Past that Turned out to be a Bad Idea.

I loved Christmas as a child and I quite like it as an adult. I was having a think yesterday about all the presents I have received over the years that turned out to be a bad idea. Not necessarily because I was ungrateful as I’ve always appreciated people buying me gifts whatever they are, it’s mainly because something was wrong with them or they caused me some form of angst.     The first one that sprang to mind was the Pogo Stick. I actually asked for one from my parents and this was a bad idea. I could never get the hang of the pogo stick and ended up falling…

    My Favorite Teacher

I was a shy 11 year old sitting in my first music lesson at secondary school on my first week. It was a big scary place. Lots of big kids jostling around in the corridors being noisy. I didn’t like my secondary school for at least 6 months, and after that I just kind of tolerated it, but school for me was a requirement, and I didn’t ever really enjoy it. There were subjects I took a shine too obviously, as my school years moved on; but it was the more creative subjects that interested me most. Anyway, the setting is set for me to give you a little story…

Were You a Child of the 70s?

My son and I were discussing his primary school the other day and how times have changed. I showed him an old photograph I had of a classroom from my junior school, many moons ago, and he couldn’t believe that our teachers used a blackboard. I remember my childhood very well and have fond memories of my time at Junior school in the 1970s. I do work in schools, and when I compare the differences from then and now, it is quite significant the way lessons and school life has changed; often quite dramatically. With this nostalgic frame of mind, I had a good look on the web the other…

Your Grandfather was a Rag and Bone Man!

I was looking at some old black and white photographs the other day of my great-grandmother when she was a baby. It was in my Aunt’s collection which I remember looking at when I was a little girl. If my great-grandmother was alive today she would have been 119 years old! I remember quite vividly going to her home during my dinner break from junior school when I was  8 years old, and she at the time was about 80. My great-grandmother, Evelyn, was a very special person to me and I was incredibly close to her. She had so many interesting stories about the ‘olden days’. She used to…

    Discontinued..Buy Why?!!

On Sunday, I went shopping to my local town centre and visited one of my favourite stores to have a leisurely mooch around and do a large amount of sniffing. It was the ‘BodyShop’, of course. Anyway, after a verrrry long time (I just love the place), I opted for one of their newer fragrances called ‘Fijian Water Lotus’, which I feel has a lovely scent, especially for the daytime. The assistant informed me that there were many offers on at the moment for my absolute favourite perfume (apparently to use the word ‘perfume’ in the UK signifies what class system you belong to; therefore, I am working class. If…
