Free Online Courses (CPD etc)

During Lockdown, I have been advised by my employers to study and complete some online courses for CPD purposes, whilst I’ve been at home. Apart from giving me added knowledge for the benefits of teaching children; some of the courses are excellent for personal study and interest.

FutureLearn:  A really good free online study resource. Unfortunately, you don’t get a certificate at the completion; you have to pay for one, but you will receive an email to confirm that you have studied. There’s quite a few subjects to choose from: Business and management, Healthcare, History, Arts, Education, Law, Languages and many more. It’s really worth taking a look. You follow along with reading, answering intermittent quizzes to test your knowledge and discussions to watch. I’ve studied 3 up to now; Supporting Teaching in Schools, Bullying and Understanding Autism and Dyslexia.  https://www.futurelearn.com/

Open University:  This is my favourite because it’s delivered in such a concise and easy to understand way; and I also like the format in which mine were presented. There are hundreds of free courses, and the added bonus is that they give you a statement of participation (like a certificate) that you can print off and save. Subjects include: Science, History, Education, Politics, Languages and loads more. There are courses that range from a few hours to a hundred. I’ve just completed a course on children’s book illustration, and I’m currently studying teaching maths. It’s really good. https://www.open.edu/openlearn/

Oxford Home Study Centre: These courses are free and include certificates upon completion. Included are: Customer services, Internet marketing, Fashion design, Travel and tourism and Book keeping etc..There are 55 in total with no hidden fees. https://www.oxfordhomestudy.com/free-online-courses-with-certificates

edX: This is a great one, and the majority of these courses are free. If you do want a certificate though, you will have to pay for one. It is an extensive site that offers courses from reputable and admired institutions, such as MIT, Harvard, Boston University etc. Popular courses include business management, humanities, languages, engineering, data science and computer science. https://www.edx.org/

I’m going to choose my next one from edX 🙂

I am a mother of two children, and have had many experiences in my life that I have been through and had to overcome. I feel it would be beneficial (at least to me, and perhaps you) to share my experiences. I’d love to hear your comments and suggestions. x
