Helter Skelter
I haven’t been on a holiday for the past five years, which is a pretty long time. I was thinking the other day of the times I used to visit the seaside as a child, and I have memories of the fairgrounds with the carousel, the big wheel and the helter skelter.
I have taken on my own project of painting fairground rides from the past. Here is my first of a Helter Skelter in watercolour and pen.

Wow Pip! Your Helter Skelter painting is amazing and so detailed! I’ve tried painting with watercolours before and found it really difficult. You are super talented, thanks for sharing ???? xx

Thank you Bexa. There’s an artist called ‘Hazel Soan’ that has written a little pocket book of 10 minute watercolour tips and tutorials you can try. Its by Collins Gem, about £4.99, I use that quite a bit and it’s very good for starting out. x

How fun! This should be an amazing set of watercolors /drawings when you finish! I don’t know why, but this one reminds me of the song by Mary Hopkin, “Those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end, we’d sing and dance forever and a day…”

I remember that song. I’m endeavouring (I always have to check the dictionary when I write that word, lol) to paint a horse from a carousel. Hard to get his gnashers right though without them looking like false teeth!!

Beautiful painting! So whimsical–but also I could imagine seeing it in American Horror Story: Freak Show. I mean that as a compliment!

I never thought about it that way but actually you are quite right. It’s macabre!!!

Perfect word for it! There’s just an underlying feeling of “hmmmm, something nefarious could go down here…but there’s probably also candy floss, so, I’ll risk it!” LOL

And then at the bottom a clown is standing there holding a bag of sugar doughnuts in one hand and a toffee apple in the other. Would you grab the food? I wouldn’t, my worst nightmare. Great word by the way, nefarious! I had to consult my dictionary ????
