My Mother’s Sylvanian Family
Sylvanian Families:
Since 1985, Sylvanian Families has been loved by many people around the world. It is a nostalgic toy range that attracts people from different age groups. Based on three concepts, Nature, Family and Love, children can explore the power of imagination and learn to care and share with one another.Â

So according to the above, the brand of toys called the ‘Sylvanian Families’ are an engaging range of animal creatures within their own little family units. They are incredibly cute. There’s a fox family, cats, dogs, bears, rabbits and even labradors. There’s an extensive range of stuff you can buy for them like houses, cars, treehouses, bakeries and shops.
There, the scene is set!
About 3 months ago, on an unusually warm autumnal afternoon, my mother and I were sitting in her garden enjoying a cup of tea and a cake and this cute little kitten came trotting down the path. This cat was quite tame and sat at a distance looking at us quite intently for a few minutes. I got quite excited about this because I just love animals and my mother informed me that this kitten was a regular visitor to her home and she was feeding her.
Over the next few weeks, it became quite apparent that this was not the only cat my mum was feeding. There was a father cat, we think, the mum, the aforesaid kitten and 2 more balls of pure white fluff that were, we gather, from the same family. My mum was quite concerned about them all because they seemed to be feral and were quite hungry initially. I told her to contact the RSPCA for advice, and they informed her that as long as stray cats are not injured they usually leave them alone as they can fend for themselves. So that basically answered our questions. There is a disused factory at the back of my mother’s house and we have a feeling they come from there where they shelter and live as a group. Nevertheless, they are fed daily and as a little cat family are thriving. They come into my mum’s house and sit near the fire when they want to, have some fuss, have a play and then go back outside because that’s what they’re used to.
I think they are the cutest little family of cats, and I took a photograph of them the other day to show you. The three featured are Fluffy, Kitty and Frosty. They have been christened as my mother’s Sylvanian family x
